Neurodiversity recognizes that brains work differently—like how some are right-handed and some are left. Neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, OCD) isn’t a defect—it’s a different operating system with unique gifts and challenges.
Therapy can help if you:
My approach to neurodivergent-affirming therapy focuses on helping you embrace your unique brain wiring while developing practical strategies to navigate life's challenges. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you cultivate self-acceptance and psychological flexibility - not to change who you are, but to help you live more fully as yourself. Many neurodivergent clients come to me exhausted from years of masking their true selves; together, we'll work on safely unmasking and developing authentic ways of being in the world that honor your needs and strengths.
Rather than forcing you to conform to neurotypical standards, we'll create customized systems that work with your natural rhythms. For ADHD clients, this might mean developing time management strategies that account for hyperfocus periods. For autistic clients, we might focus on sensory regulation techniques or navigating social situations in ways that feel authentic to you. The goal is always to help you reduce shame about your differences while building practical skills to manage the very real challenges of living in a world not designed for your brain.
Through our work together, you'll develop more than just coping skills - you'll gain a profound sense of self-understanding and acceptance. Many clients report feeling "seen" for the first time as they learn to recognize their neurodivergent traits as natural variations rather than flaws. You'll leave with concrete tools to manage executive dysfunction, emotional regulation, sensory sensitivities, and social interactions in ways that align with how your brain actually works.
Beyond symptom management, this therapy helps you build a life that celebrates your neurodivergence. You might rediscover abandoned passions, learn to set boundaries that honor your needs, or finally feel confident advocating for accommodations at work or school. The ultimate outcome? Moving from constantly trying to "pass" as neurotypical to living authentically - with all the creativity, intensity, and unique perspective that comes with your neurodivergent mind. As one client put it: "I stopped wasting energy pretending to be normal and finally started thriving as myself."
No, these diagnoses require specific testing from a professional with the proper training to administer and score such assessments. For individuals under 18, school districts often offer these services to coordinate how to best support their students in their academic performance.
Quite the opposite! We work to embrace the characteristics that make you who you are while addressing the stress and issues that come up from navigating environments that may not always be understanding or accepting of those differences and how to cope and care for yourself.
I think it’s awesome that you are seeking answers to better understand yourself! Self-diagnosis is a hot-button topic right now and while it can be empowering to find the answers on your own, it does come with some considerations as well. First, it is important to consider who you’re getting the information from. A licensed professional can speak to the possibility that the signs you notice may overlap with something else entirely such as anxiety or depression and is generally more well-versed in mental health diagnoses than a non-licensed individual sharing their own personal stories living with a specific diagnosis. It doesn’t mean their perspective isn’t valid or real! Secondly, if you’re hoping to get potential accommodations, a professional must diagnose you to move forward with assistance. However, if you’re just seeking to better understand yourself or scratch an itch, there’s nothing stopping you from diagnosing yourself as getting a formal evaluation can be costly and out-of-reach for a lot of people.
You don’t have to navigate your mental health journey alone. Together, we can uncover your strengths and create a path toward growth and resilience.
