Meet Ba Bunansa

Adult, Teens, AAPI, LGBTQIA+

I’m gonna go out on a limb here. Ready?

I’m going to guess that, at some point in your life, you’ve struggled with confidence. You’ve felt unsure of your choices, your identity, even yourself. Low self-esteem was the name of your game.

…Okay, so that was a pretty safe bet, right? Not much of a limb.

But I like safe bets. And I know this much is true:
Most of us have struggled with our self-confidence at some point in our lives.

It’s normal to have those times when you feel like you’re in flux. You’ll have days – even weeks – where you’re making it up as you go along.

And that’s okay.

But…

If that’s your default setting… If you’re feeling unsure of yourself, your identity, or struggling with your self-worth most of the time… Then it sounds like you, my friend, might be spending your days feeling heavier than you deserve.

And it doesn’t have to feel so hard.

Really.

I’m Ba Bunansa. I’m an LGBTQIA+-affirming therapist for Texas teens, adults, and the AAPI community.

So if you…
…then I might just be your guy!

I believe that accepting and celebrating ourselves for who we are is one of life’s greatest challenges.

But I also believe that it’s worth the effort… And that it’s never a journey you have to take by yourself.

And I can promise you this, even if we haven’t met yet:
Your feelings are valid, and YOU ARE WORTH IT.

As your therapist, I serve as your facilitator. I strive to create an upbeat, supportive environment where you can learn and discover more about yourself, your patterns, and your own deeply-held values.

You’ll have the time and space to freely explore the challenges you’re facing. And we’ll work collaboratively to build the coping skills and healthy boundaries you need to get unstuck from the thoughts and behaviors holding you back.

I wholly believe that accepting ourselves is the first step toward healing – and to accept ourselves, we have to get to know ourselves. This can feel scary and vulnerable…

But it can be a lot of fun, too.

You aren’t alone. I promise.

What television and the movies don’t usually tell us about therapists is that many of us have struggled, too. And we’ve chosen the mental health field because we know what it’s like to feel alone.

But we also know what a difference it can make to have a supportive therapeutic relationship to lean on – a safe space to explore exactly who you are and what you want.

Having an experienced therapist in your corner can bring everything you’re struggling with into clearer focus. For me, therapy made my struggles seem bearable. I got through a tough time not with quick fixes, but by learning about my own triggers and patterns… And growing, evolving over time.

I received help and support that prioritized what was in my best interest. It made a tremendous difference in my life…

And now, I’m committed to providing that same kind of support to you.

The Official Stuff

I’ve told you the why and the how of working with me at Sunny Side Up Psychotherapy. Here’s the official stuff… (And some not-so-official stuff, too!)

So – hi, again! I’m Ba Bunansa, MS, LPC, NCC, BC-TMH.

Yes, that is a lot of letters. But here’s what they mean for our work together:

  • I have a Master of Science (MS) in Counseling from Southern Methodist University.
  • I’m a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas. That means we can work together if you’re in Texas, too.
  • I’m also a National Certified Counselor (NCC), which means I’ve done a lot of extra learning and testing to even better-ensure that I can help you identify your needs and work through your challenges.
  • Finally, I’m a Board Certified-TeleMental Health (BC-TMH) Provider, so I’m totally comfortable working with you online, via telehealth. And I know we can get good stuff done this way.
  • I’ve also received specialized training and have extensive experience providing LGBTQIA+ counseling in the North Dallas area and throughout Texas.
I opened Sunny Side Up Psychotherapy in 2021 so I could better meet the unique needs of each and every one of my clients. I work with teens and adults online throughout Texas and in person for residents of Plano and surrounding areas.

Before going into private practice, I worked with individuals of all ages in a variety of settings, like nonprofit agencies, hospitals, and outpatient programs.

I also have an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts and a Bachelor’s in Literary Studies. (This means I’m always down to chat about media and how it applies to and shapes our culture!)

I’m also a big fan of checking out movies and television shows roughly 3-5 years after they’re recommended to me, singing along (poorly) to the music I like, and laughing at memes.

I also enjoy tacos, video games, collecting fake plants (they just last longer!), and staying healthy through exercise.

Think we sound like a good fit?
Cool. I’d love to hear from you!
